Angela Silver, a JCSU’s Metropolitan College of Professional Studies’ Graduate, tells us more about her story and the source of her profound joy as she crossed the stage to receive her diploma on May 20, 2018.

ENTRY 1

On May 20, 2018, Angela Silver was caught on video dancing, jumping and praising in frenetic excitement as she crossed the stage to receive her bachelor’s degree diploma. The video has been viewed thousands of times on social media (if you haven’t seen it yet, scroll below and click on the link). But what is her story beyond this unforgettable moment? What was lying behind that dance of praise? Is this something that should remain an epic social media moment, or rather, become an opportunity to reflect on how higher education can transform a person’s life?

At JCSU’s Metropolitan College of Professional Studies (or Metropolitan College for short) we believe it is the latter. This is the reason why we took some time to have a candid conversation with Angela so she could walk us through her journey as a nontraditional student, from the very beginning until graduation day. She will tell us more about her emotions on the big day and what was going through her heart and mind seconds before her explosive expression of joy and excitement. During the next few blog entries, Mrs. Silver will let us know more about her struggles, triumphs and sources of motivation.

To our readers, thank you for joining us on this series that we hope will also help you feel inspired and motivated to launch your own road to success through higher education. For now, we invite you to watch Angela’s video one more time as we get ready to learn more about this courageous “Smithite” and JCSU’s Class of 2018 “Dancing Queen”.
